Guest Post & Giveaway: Andrea Speed – A chat with Paris

For the relaunch of my Infected series, I thought I’d Google random questions from the internet, and have characters from the series answer them. This time, it’s Paris’s turn in the hot seat.

1. What song do you sing in the shower?

Paris: I Wanna Be Adored.

2. When was the last time you really laughed?

Paris: Probably ten minutes ago. Roan is hysterical. Mostly on purpose.

3. Do you speak another language?

Paris: Of course, darling, I’m Canadian. I know how to say a whole bunch of things in half-assed French. I know some Spanish too, but mostly curses.

4. What are two things that you consider yourself to be very good at?

Paris: Sex, and being really entertaining at parties.

5. If you could break one law with impunity what would it be?

Paris: I’d steal everything not nailed down. And I’d be constantly high.

6. If you had an extra room in your house what would you use it for?

Paris: Ooh. What about a sauna? That’d be fun, wouldn’t it? Your own personal sauna. Or a bounce house. That would be fun too. Hey, do you think they could be combined?

7. What would be your personal hell?

Paris: CSPAN. Nothing but CSPAN.

8. What is your earliest memory?

Paris: I think it’s petting a rabbit. Funny, huh?

9. If you had to apply a label to yourself, what would it be?

Paris: Fabulous!

10. What music do you hate?

Paris: Smooth jazz. That kind they play in dentist’s offices? Ugh. It’s music to be sedated to, and not in a good way.

11. What do you dislike most about modern life?

Paris: Put down your goddamn phone for five minutes! I realize that makes me sound like somebody’s grandpa, but I’ll hike my pants up to my armpits for that one. I’m tired of people paying more attention to their screens than me. That’s just wrong.

12. If you were going to go into business for yourself what would you do?

Paris: Ooh. I think I’d make a great strip-o-gram. Or I could rent myself out to sad parties, to liven them up. As I said, I’m very good at them.

13. What is the worst flavor of ice cream?

Paris: Anything with peanut butter. I’m sorry, but I just can’t tolerate peanut butter in my ice cream.

14. What was the first thing you learned to cook?

Paris: I’m pretty sure it was toast. If that doesn’t count, then it was scrambled eggs.

15. If you could live at any time in history when would it be?

Paris: Can I pick the shiny, Star Trek future? If not, then I’m good with now. I have all my stuff here.

16. What was your first paying job?

Paris: I mowed some lawns around the neighborhood, I think.

17: What is your favorite winter activity?

Paris: Snuggling. Out of propriety, I’m giving you the G rated version.

18. When was your best Valentine Day?

Paris: This past one. I bought Roan some really tacky underwear and made him model them for me. Don’t tell him I told you!

19. What makes you lose your inhibitions?

Paris: That would require me to have inhibitions in the first place.

20. What three adjectives best describe you?

Paris: Scintillating, seductive, fabulous.

I’m really good at …

Paris: Blowing people’s minds. And other things, if I like you.

TH2014Author

Andrea Speed writes way too much (and yet seemingly not enough). She is the writer of the Infected series for DSP Publications as well as a bunch of other stuff, and is Editor In Chief of CxPulp.com, where she reviews comics as well as movies and other stuff. She’s won a couple of Rainbow Awards, and feels she may be ubiquitous on the web. But she is not (sadly) the Italian DJ of the same name that often comes up first in Google searches.

Happy release day! It’s been a fun ride getting the story to this point, and at long last it’s available to all. Join James on his journey, and help him see it through to the bitter end. Congrats to all my winners, enjoy your free copies! Read on for an excerpt and links to some exclusive sneak peeks into the story:

James fumbled to regain control, and it took a second to realize that it wasn’t teeth he felt now—it was a soft and damp tongue. The almost constant rumbling from deep in the creature’s chest had morphed at some point, from warning growls to what sounded suspiciously like a purr. James felt his skin crawl and tore himself away, stumbling a bit when he stood too fast.

He was reeling. Everything from the past twenty-four hours suddenly came crashing down around him at once. In so short a time, he’d had the last of his sworn enemies in the palm of his hand, let him escape, and brought a feral monster into his own house. And he’d fed it.

James fumbled his way into the kitchen, eying the sink as he felt his stomach threaten to heave. He pushed himself to the fridge, grabbing a nutrition drink and forcing its contents down his throat along with the bile. He reminded himself that he needed it to help his blood recover, and this was all according to plan—take in the feral and get it sane enough to track the one who’d made it.

He braced himself against the counter with both arms, repeating the plan in his head until the moment passed.

He was too busy to notice at first, but something was wrong—nothing hurt. He looked back down at his arm.

It had completely healed.

About A. Morell:
A. Morell spent ten years writing silly things for herself, going through work, school, and a failed career path in the culinary arts before deciding it was time to submit to a publisher. She still writes silly things for herself, but now some of them get pretty-looking covers. She has never looked back.

Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, she greatly enjoys food, baseball, shopping, tattoos, karaoke, and old bookstores. She is averse to spiders, zombies, over-used words, tardiness, inclement weather, and the misquotation of movie lines and lyrics. Her dream is to retire to Hawaii immediately. She has one cat.

Guest Author – Kim Fielding: 11 Things you should know about Bone Dry.

Hi! Kim Fielding here. I have a cargo container full of new releases out this month–okay, I have five. But that’s a lot. One of them is Bone Dry, the third book in the Bones series. (You don’t need to read the first two to enjoy this one, so feel free to jump on in.) In the spirit of Buzzfeed, my procrastination vehicle of choice, here are 11 things you should know about Bone Dry.

1. While this book focuses on Ery Phillips, our sexy friends Chris and Dylan also play important roles.

2. Travis and Drew from Speechless and The Gig also make a cameo appearance.

3. The farm in this series is based loosely on a real one in Oregon. It’s owned by my brother and sister-in-law. As far as I know, their farm contains no supernatural creatures–just a lot of ducks and chickens and geese. And frequent beaver and otter visitors.

4. Nixes are a kind of water spirit. They’re also called nocks. Nock is Chris’s last name. I did not do this on purpose, but it sure did work out well.

5. The story mentions this painting by Ernst Josephson.

6. Chris and Dylan visit Paris and stay in Le Marais. Among other things, that neighborhood contains a boulangerie called LeGay Choc, where one can purchase interesting (and tasty!) baked goods.

7. Ery drives a yellow Mini Cooper with black bonnet stripes. Her name is Bea. I drive a red Mini named Mick. My car has a skull and crossbones on the roof.

8. Ery’s grandmother lives in Ladd’s Addition, a lovely but slightly confusing neighborhood in Portland, Oregon.

9. This book contains a dream unicorn. Did you know that the unicorn is Scotland’s national animal?

Licorne_Edimbourg_Scotland

10. I invented a new cuisine for this novel: Polish/Pacific Northwest fusion. This could be the new big thing.

Ery Phillips’s muse is MIA. He’s pretty sure his job as a graphic designer is to blame, because let’s face it, what kind of muse wants to draw grocery store logos and catheterized penises?

When Ery’s friends Dylan and Chris head off on a European vacation, Ery jumps at the chance to stay on their farm, hoping a stint in the country will encourage his muse to reappear. To be sure, the farm has attracted a few oddities—Dylan is a werewolf and the place was recently haunted—but Ery isn’t canceling his plans just because his friends warn him that there’s something strange going on in their pond. What he doesn’t expect is Karl, a beautiful naked man who appears at the water’s edge.

With Karl as his inspiration, Ery creates amazing paintings and begins to achieve the success he had previously only dreamed of. But Karl comes with certain challenges, causing Ery to question his own goals. Creating the life of his dreams with an unusual beloved may be more challenge than Ery can handle.
