Blog Tour, Guest Post, & Giveaway – Blood and Ghosts by Shira Anthony

Thanks, Charlie, for hosting me today and letting me talk about my Blood Series books. For those reading, please read down to the end of the post to see how to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for a good Blood Series goodie basket featuring a Dr. Who Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey pendant!

So you may have guessed from the giveaway—time travel features prominently in the Blood Series. Beginning in Blood and Ghosts (Blood #2), one of the two main characters discovers he has the ability to manipulate time. Adrien Gilbert is a vampire hunter who is given the gift of immortality by the vampire he loves, Nicolas Lambert. With that gift (which does not turn Adrien into a vampire), Nicolas’s blood awakens a long-dormant ability that was once among the most powerful traits of his vampire clan: the ability to travel through time in one’s own body.

In writing the series, I knew that I wanted this ability to be its focus. Time travel is a wonderful tool to explore characters and, let’s face it, it’s pretty damn cool. How many of us wouldn’t want a second shot at an important event in our lives?

In Blood and Ghosts, Adrien hasn’t yet figured out how to control his new ability or use it to his advantage. Instead, he’s buffeted around in time, forced to re-experience difficult events, or given a second chance to live his life differently. What he doesn’t realize is the effect changing the past will have on his present.

The Blood Series is part fantasy, part paranormal, with a little wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff added in to shake things up a bit. The last book in the series will be released in early 2016. I hope you’ll join me and my unusual vampires on a journey of the heart! -Shira

2015NewAbout the Book

Sequel to Blood and Rain/Blood: Book Two

With vampire Nicolas Lambert’s marriage to a rival clanswoman only weeks away, Adrien Gilbert struggles to come to terms with his defeat at the hands of Verel Pelletier, a vampire hunter and an immortal like himself. On Nicolas’s wedding day, a two-hundred-year old secret is revealed, sending the wedding party into a blazing battle between hunters and vampires. Once again Adrien finds himself facing Pelletier’s superior strength. Just as Adrien believes all hope of a future with Nicolas is lost, he finally learns his true gift—he can turn back time. But time travel comes with a high cost. To save Nicolas, Adrien must become strong enough to use his power without descending into madness.

Blurb: Corbin Ford, aka the Nightwatchman, named for the antique pocket watches he leaves behind at jobs, has been in the cat-burgling business for years. His father was. His grandfather was. His mother is still one of the most renowned thieves. Corbin likes his high-profile heists, priceless paintings from private collections, artifacts from museums, but his favorite? Jewels. Sparkly, beautiful jewels. If they’re famous, better yet.

Interpol agent Luke Eldridge has one goal and one goal only: to catch the Nightwatchman. Luke’s been after him for months, but getting the slip time and again is getting embarrassing. Luke has never even laid eyes on the bastard, but he’d happily strangle him. And then arrest him.

When Luke meets Corbin, the man of his dreams, he falls hard and fast… only to catch Corbin red-handed with his hand in a jewelry case at the scene of the highest-profile murder that’s rocked the international world in years.

April , Malaga, Spain

It was dark, as always. Corbin lived and worked in the dark shifting spaces between dusk and dawn. At least there wasn’t freezing wet rain dripping down his collar like there had been in England. The break was nice. Corbin could already tell London wasn’t going to be his home base for the long term.

He crept through the house, empty as he’d meticulously planned it to be, and legged it silently toward the office. West corner, second floor just past the grand spiral staircase. Houses like this one always got to Corbin, made him mad in a sense. He could probably afford one just like it, but he’d never seen the need. The excess didn’t appeal to him. It was like the people were asking him to come and help themselves to some of it. Hell, some of them owned multiple houses like the one he’d silently slid into, filled with jewelry and art and other trappings of excess. He was more than happy to take the weight off their shoulders—at least the best bits of it.

The alarm had been set, but he’d hijacked the signal with a device he’d paid a ton for in London. The guy he had in the States was better, could’ve gotten him twice the amount of time with no perceived interruption of signal, but he was still new in town and didn’t have the right contacts yet. Beggars couldn’t be choosers. As a result, Corbin had six minutes to get in and out before he lost control of the alarm and his motions set it off. Seven, if he was lucky. Corbin never needed luck. He just had to be a little bit faster than usual.

The office where Lord Martindale kept the best of his wife’s jewelry and a huge stack of cash happened to be on the second floor. Another inconvenience but a small one he’d get around like he always did if something worth working a little harder for was in play. Lady Martindale’s ruby choker was one of those things. Kept in a wall safe behind a second-rate postmodern oil painting, it was hardly guarded well enough to be a worthwhile challenge. The thing was, Corbin really wanted it, challenge or not. He’d been planning to go after it for months. Since the moment he’d touched down in London. It was a small hiccup that she’d taken it with her on holiday.

Again, nothing Corbin couldn’t handle. Their safe was newer with a digital lock rather than an old fashioned tumbler. Not much of a deterrent for someone with his experience. He’d been getting into safes just like it since he was a teenager. All it took was a trusty little gadget and a bit of finesse.

Less than thirty seconds later, the safe was open, and he could pick and choose what he wanted. That night, he only wanted the necklace. The rest wasn’t important enough to waste his time.

And there it was. Beautiful.

It shone like a beacon for Corbin’s fingers, blood red and dripping with diamond accents. It was so clear, it looked liquid. So perfectly cut every stone seemed to sing out his name. He wanted to touch and take, keep it for his own. He’d been lusting after the legendary piece of jewelry for years, ever since he’d seen it up for auction at Christie’s. He would’ve bought it at the time but why? It was so much more fun to get it this way.

About the Author

Author PicI’m Mj O’Shea :) I grew up, and still live, in sunny Washington state and while I love to visit other places, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.

I spent my childhood writing stories. Sometime in my early teens, the stories turned to romance. Most of those were about me, my friends, and our favorite movie and pop stars. Hopefully, I’ve come a long way since then.

When I’m not writing, I love to play the piano, dance, cook, paint pictures, and of course read! I like sparkly girly girl things, own at least twenty different colored headbands, and I have two little dogs who sit with me when I write. Sometimes they comes up with ideas for me too…when they’re not busy napping.

2015NewAbout the Book

Irus Beaumont, cornerback for the Highlanders, has an issue with his nemesis: wideout for the Pirates, Jackson McCoy. Partly jealous over Jackson’s skill and ability to scrub coverage, Irus also struggles against an unbearable attraction to the receiver. Firmly ensconced in the closet, Irus also has a no football player rule, leaving his desires for Jackson unfulfilled. Anti-gay sentiment in the league keeps Irus closeted, even though he’d rather be out and proud.

When Jackson McCoy suffers a gay bashing at the hands of his team mates after winning the national championship, he finds himself traded to the Highlanders. Spring training brings out Jackson’s competitive nature, eliciting the aggression of his new team’s cornerback, Irus Beaumont.

In practice, Irus hurts Jackson badly. The injury places Jackson on the reserve roster. Jacks has plenty of time to contemplate his life, career, and his attraction to the sexy cornerback. Off to Orlando for the best rehab where guilt inspires Irus to call him every evening, Jackson can’t stop thinking about Irus, or what the season holds for his team.

The facility’s empty. Everyone has gone home except Harold, one of the equipment guys. I’m running routes, working out using the jugs machine, and Harold loads it for me.

“Jackson, go home. It’s late,” Coach Bryant says.

The loss tonight only drives me to work harder to get back on the field. “Can’t, Coach. I’m almost done anyway.”

Coach looks contemplative. “All right, don’t overdo it. Harold, keep an eye on him.”

“Will do, Coach.”

We work out for a while longer before Harold calls it quits. Probably for the best. The workout was good, but now I’m regretting it because my muscles are tightening up. Must’ve been the tension from this evening, running up and down the sidelines, chasing after Coach.

Time to cool down and ease my sore muscles. First the ice bath.  Next is heat. Nothing like feeling my nuts shrivel. I’m soaking in the whirlpool when the cramp hits worse than any of the cramps in Orlando. The back of my head hits the tub as I jerk in reflex, squeezing my eyes shut against the pain. Someone grabs me. I open my eyes. Two big, black, football-gnarled hands yank me from the tub. Irusthrows me to the ground. I hit the floor hard, my leg slung painfully over Irus’s shoulder. Those strong thumbs zero in on my pain.

“Fuck, Iris.”

A wide palm stings my naked ass.

“That’s not my name, boy.”

God, does he know I’m lusting after him? Does he realize how good his hand feels on my ass?

“Breathe,” he orders.

I grit my teeth to a fresh wave of agony.

My leg drips water on his nice suit. The one he wore to the airport after the miserable loss.

“Jackson, what’re you—”

“They’re gonna cut me if I can’t perform.”

Yeah, that shut him up. He hurt me. Took me out of the game. Now we’re losing. What’s he gonna say? Sorry?

“Don’t be a fool, Jacks. We couldn’t put you in tonight. Coach doesn’t want to risk your getting hurt again. Quit taking on all the guilt. It’s my fault. All of it’s my fault.”

The cramp eases. His wonderful hands slide up and down my thigh. I’m naked. Open. Exposed. I sit up, but he doesn’t give me an inch. Our noses touch. I smell the whiskey. A hint of his expensive cologne. My dick wants his hands. The head brushes my belly, so fucking hard, and he can see his full effect on me.

His fast hands knot in my hair, holding me immobile, and his lips collide withmine. All his weight crushes me to the floor as his tongue explores my mouth. I wrap my wet legs around his hips, dragging him to me.

Isn’t exploration violent? God, I hope so. I need it hard. Let him inside. Expose all of me. Irus is all I want.“Fuck me,” I whisper between sloppy kisses. I’m still afraid, even as his tongue dances down my throat to lavish my hollow, his lips skimming my clavicle.

His hands flex in my hair. He pulls away. I feel a loss more intense than the game tonight. “Not here,” he says. His voice is tight, angry, but in control.

“Take me home, Irus.”

“My place is closer.”

The idea scares me, going home with a teammate again, but this is Irus. The man who, down deep in my soul, I know I need. I feel safer, though, more comfortable in my own home. I’ve been away so long. The idea of Irus in my bed, washing away the memories of Terry Branson, makes me insistent.

“Can we go to my house?” The long ride will give Irus a chance to back out. The thought kills me, but I should be fair to the man. Give him a chance to prevent a mistake.

Irus kisses me. The taste of whiskey nowhere near as repulsive as it had been on Terry’s lips. He’s different. So unlike Terry. I trust Irus. He groans into my mouth as he grinds against my hard dick. The length of his shaft pressed to mine.

“I’m getting you wet,” I whisper.

He takes my mouth again. Harder.

God, I want him out of his clothes. The image of him in nothing but his jock pops into my head. His cock so long and thick. The memory of those dark curls dancing their way up his belly teases me. I reach for him, rubbing his shaft through the soft material of his trousers. He looks good. I bet he tastes even better. I want to suck his cock. I’m breathless with need.

“I’ll take you home, Jackson.” He removes my hand from his dick. “Let me get under control. It’s a long drive.”
