Author Interview & Giveaway – Stolen Dreams by Sue Brown

Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me today. I have the lovely Sue Brown here, and she’s kindly taken some time to answer a few questions. Sue, could you tell us a little about yourself for the folks joining us?

Sue: Thank you for having me. I’m a mum of two teenagers and two dogs. They own me. I’m a Londoner born and bred and I have a thing about cowboys. I’ve been writing M/M Romance since 2010 when I submitted my first story to Dreamspinner. I came via fanfic and owe my writing career to Captain Jack Harkness (Doctor Who and Torchwood). Oh, and I can be bribed with chocolate.

Charlie: What do you feel is the most challenging part of being a published author? What do you enjoy most about being a published author?

Sue: I think the hardest thing for me is maintaining the momentum of promotion and writing, and working ‘Sue Brown’ as a business. It’s been a wretched few months and keeping all the balls in the air has been very difficult. What do I enjoy most? Talking to readers, authors and friends around the world. They’ve been a huge support in difficult times. It’s not just a writer/reader relationship. There is friendship and love both ways.

Charlie: Is there a genre you don’t write in now that you would love to write? Do you have a favorite genre to read?

Sue: Answering this in reverse. I only read M/M romance, but within it I read everything from crime to BDSM to cowboy. I would like to write crime and fantasy with gay characters.

Charlie: You’ve visited the States quite a few times. Can you tell us what you’ve enjoyed the most about your trips to the US? Is there something you wish you could have taken back with you to the UK?

Sue: It’s the same answer both times. I loved meeting all the people, especially at the cons. There is something special about meeting all the people I talk to every day. And I wish I could have sneaked them all back in my suitcase.

Charlie: What’s your favorite part of the writing process? Your least favorite?

Sue: My favourite part? Typing the end. My least favourite part is mid-plot droop. For some reason I always struggle in the middle of the plot.

Charlie: If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Sue: Oooh, invisibility. I’d love to be able to sneak around and spy on people. That makes me sound a bit creepy, doesn’t it?

Charlie: Which one of your characters is more like you?

Sue: That is such a hard question! Probably Nathan in Nothing Ever Happens. We’ve been through similar experiences.

Charlie: If you were stranded on a desert island with one of your characters, who would you choose and why?

Sue: Sam from the Isle series. Definitely. Because all the Owens would come and rescue him. If Paul got stranded they’d probably leave him there.

Charlie: What five things would you have with you on the island? Food and water are provided.

Sue: Wifi, computer, chocolate, coffee and wine. I know I’m assuming there would be electricity.

Charlie: What’s one place you haven’t visited that you would like to?

Sue: New Zealand because of the scenery.

Charlie: What are you working on now?

Sue: Three books at the moment. In-Decision, part of a series with Lisa Worrall, The Gentlemen’s Club, a Regency, and finally a crime series – working title Last Week’s Murder.

2015About the author

Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn’t following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. In fact she hides so she can plot and has gotten expert at ignoring the orders.

Sue discovered M/M erotica at the time she woke up to find two men kissing on her favorite television series. The series was boring; the kissing was not. She may be late to the party, but she’s made up for it since, writing fan fiction until she was brave enough to venture out into the world of original fiction.
